Getting Scouts Signed Up

One of the frustrations is having lots of hands go up in the meeting when you ask who’s going only to have a fraction of those actually end up going. This creates planning headaches when it comes to making campsite reservations, sizing how much climbing gear to reserve or how many shotgun shells to buy.

One method to dealing with this is to announce the outing early and often at the Scout meetings AND collect a non-refundable deposit to cover trip costs. In other words, money talks! This method provides much less variability in the number of Scouts who say they’re going vs. those who actually go. Of course, you can always allow for some flexibility for last minute adds or deletions as long as there is room for adds or people aren’t financially impacted by deletions.
