Rancheria backpacking trip MLK weekend

  • January 12th will be here soon. The Rancheria Creek Backpack preliminary drive plan is as follows
  • On Friday (1/12) depart at 9AM and arriveĀ at Camp Curry at about 3pm.
  • Those who leave after school may arrive as late as midnight.
  • Chains have been needed on two previous trips. If Highway 41 slows for snow then Highway 140 via Mariposa is the alternate but 15 minutes longer.
  • This is not a first timers trip, The coldest temperature we have measured at Rancheria Creek was 19 degrees but the averageĀ minimum is around 37.
  • The usual cold weather gear is needed: gloves, jacket, long johns, balaclava, wind pants, wind breaker, etc. Sometimes it is useful to have extra socks. On most of the trips we have had a big steak and potato meal Sunday night but for this trip freeze dried food is the preliminary meal plan.
  • Monday we usually have lunch on the road, usually in Oakhurst. One trip we drove into Yosemite Valley for lunch but the sight seeing added an hour to the drive home.
